Schaubude Berlin

As a Senate-sponsored venue for the theater of things, the Schaubude Berlin has become a central platform of the genre and garnered international attention since it was founded in 1993. The programme unites different aesthetic approaches to contemporary puppet, figure and object theatre and presents the work of Berlin-based theatre artists alongside national and international guest productions, especially during the international puppet and object theatre festival Theatre of Things. There is also a strong focus on supporting the next generation of artists, with collaborations with the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts and its Contemporary Puppetry degree programme, a special Young Scene programme section and the international festival for emerging artists in figure theater, Temptation.

In addition to presenting some 300 performances per season in the children’s and evening programmes, as well as staging festivals, the Schaubude Berlin offers a broad range of theatre education activities and discursive formats to teach artistic processes. Beyond this, the theatre also initiates numerous cross-genre encounters and thematic focuses.
